BIO:

Grammy Award Winner, Rock N Roll Hall of Famer & Oakland Coffee Co-Founder

1. Oakland Coffee is all about kick starting your day. What is your morning boot up sequence?

I must admit that I am the last person to wake up in my house. I am also the one that’s most wrecked in the morning. Mostly because I’m a night person. My amazing wife makes me coffee every morning. I have to say and I must humbly brag, that it is the most glorious part of my day. I have a small leopard chair that has been in our family for 27 years. That’s where I sit every single morning. It’s the only place in the house where no one is allowed. Hahaha

2. What’s off the table prior to drinking coffee?

Rule number one after I wake up and before I have my first cuppa coffee is please do not ask me any questions. My brain isn’t functioning until I have my first cuppa coffee.

3. What’s your coffee order/ how do you take it?

I like to have my coffee as strong as possible. I mean really really really strong. Black. I don’t wanna sound like a tough guy, but no one else can really drink the coffee that I like to make. It’s near meth haha.

4. What’s your coffee brewing set up? (Give us a rig rundown)

My coffee maker is a Moccamaster Clubline. It’s not too crazy.

5. Sunset or Sunrise?

Sunrise. Especially when I go surfing. There’s nothing better than a strong travel mug of black coffee while driving my van to the beach.

6. Are you reading, listening or watching anything interesting?

I’ve been binge watching Curb your Enthusiasm. Larry David is one of the funniest people alive.

7. What inspires you?

Inspiration comes in all forms for me. It could be hearing a new song, it could be going surfing, it could be hanging out with my dogs. I could just be hanging out with my friends and playing music together. Inspiration is sort of overrated. I’d prefer to work. When you work with music and art, you usually come up with something you love. And that’s what inspires you to keep doing what you love.

8. Any new habits or hobbies?

Not really. I’m trying to learn how to play the tapping solo to “Mean Streets” by Van Halen

9. Where were you born?

I was born in Oakland, California.

10. Has your coffee routine changed throughout your life?

I’ve been on the same coffee routine for many years. I used to drink coffee with cream. But now I take it straight no chaser.

11. One breakfast food you can’t live without?

Eggs over medium.

12. Best advice you’ve ever been given?

No one cares about your failures. When you realize that, your fears go away.

13. Hot or Cold Shower?

Cold Ocean. Hot shower.

14. If you could have coffee with one person dead AND alive who would they be?

I’ll have coffee with anyone as long as they don’t ask me any questions before I have my 1st cup.

15. What do you have coming up that you're most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to my next birthday. I expect to get a lot of presents. Hint hint.
